Dells desktop extended family now includes the new Inspiron 518. Supported by Dell's name, position and power, this mini tower desktop provides high performance for any User Type. With a shiny black body and beautiful chrome, this work environment can make any office or living room look a little more exotic. The budget Inspirons, with the functionality, is a little more oriented to families and students than those techy guys out there.
The system starts a bare-bones is $ 329. (Bare-bone, in this sense, the minimum technical specifications discussed in a bit.) Additional features can be added through Dells interactive design process. The Inspiron 518 can not be the cheapest in the desktop market, but is a decent price when considering the performance and functionality offering.
Under the hood is a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 256 ATI Radeon HD 3450 and 5400 rpm 320GB hard drive. The Inspiron 518 also has Gigabit Ethernet for fast connection speeds, dual-layer DVD burner, and works with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (32-bit).
Note that no option for the installation of 64-bit Windows Vista. Unfortunately, the Inspiron 518 is flexible in this sense, since it only supports a system 32-bit operating. 64-bit operating systems require more memory, this system does not. If you are planning to upgrade to Windows 7, you first have to upgrade the memory, and any other hardware necessary to get the desktop up to speed to handle a 64-bit OS.
The overall design of Insprion 518, is quite elegant and easy on the eyes. Dell did not stop with the overall look, they really added a tray to the top of the mini-tower, for easy storage Small plug-n-play devices. Moreover, there were two USB 2.0 ports added, close the tray, to allow users to conveniently load and connect with these devices.
Dell provides consumers with friendly interfaces and easy to navigate. To enhance the User Experience, they have now added what is called the Dell Dock. Views similar to the sidebar, you can customize the dock to hold the icons for your favorite applications and files. This gives you easy one-click access to those things you use most. You can customize where it appears the dock, the desktop, along with the option to turn it off throughout.
The Dell Inspiron 518 does offer consumers the option of adding a Blu-ray optical drive. Depending on what you had in mind for the desktop, this may not be an obstacle at all. The graphics card that comes with the system, is a bit on the low end as well. Unlike other machines from Dell, there is no option to upgrade this feature to customize your build. The graphics card that comes with the Inspiron 518 is decent, but not a card high-end games.
The Inspiron 518 is a computer budget friendly. Combine that with its high performance and the number of features it offers, and you even has a fantastic computer everyday. If you are looking for a computer to a student or an entire family, the Inspiron 518 is a good fit.
