Windows XP will not load my personal settings, what can I do to fix this?
In the game I get a message Windows can not load my personal settings. It will load normally, but it's like I just took my computer out of the box and connected it Everything inside is like a day for me, it asks me to register, take a tour of XP, Dell survey etc. etc. I have the generic Dell desktop and screen saver for Windows. When I'm in all my favorites are no longer there and I'm ready if I want to use Yahoo as my homepage. This happens every time and now im growing frustrated. Can anyone suggest a course of action before I spend hundreds of dollars to buy a new CPU. DELL Dimension 4600, Windows XP (Home) with SP2
Ever that a User logs onto the computer, it creates a profile for that User. If a User is in for the first time, he is given the default profile. What happened was that your profile has become corrupted (damaged). It is not uncommon for that to happen. Your old profile is still there, however. It is in a Documents folder and Settings> username (username being the name is what you make less). If you open that folder and you have set your folders to display files and hidden folders (Control Panel> Folder Options> VIEW> Show hidden files and folders), then you will see a folder of bookmarks, cookies, desktop, etc. You can actually copy and paste this in your profile that you are using now (which can also be found under Documents and Settings). Hope this helps and do not buy another computer for that. Not a hardware problem.
