What to do to your computer desktop Fire?
Hi, my Dell desktop computer is 5 years old. I never cleaned the dust out of the CPU, because I was afraid touching something wrong and lose my data. Last year I bought more memory from Dell and paid extra for them to send someone here to install it. I offered the guy $ 50 to dust, but he said he could not do it then – I'd have to call him and he would charge a travel fee $ 80 plus $ 65 per hour. Refused. Today I thought I smelled burnt. At first I thought it was hair, but now I wonder if the dust inside my computer. The smell comes and goes so I'm not sure if I'm imagining. The top of the CPU is not hot. All this got me thinking – what is the proper procedure if a CPU on fire? Thanks so much in advance, dee
1. Have a degree Electrical (type) fire extinguisher available. 2. Un-plug it or try to cut the power at the breaker box to the computer. This is pretty much it. Dry dust is not really difficult if you follow the instructions on the can (basically do not turn upside down when spraying (liquid leaves and can damage the material). Do not use a vacuum inside your computer. Spray the fan power supply on the back and do the same with the motherboard within the cabinet. – It may be dust or occasionally I had an error logged into my tower and get roasted.
