Dell Desktop Upgrade

Diminsion I have a dell 2400 desktop computer and looking to upgrade my hard drive?

I have a 40g hard drive and looking to upgrade, I looked the Dell website for upgrades, but they were all external hard drives. I have an external hard drive already. I'm looking for internal, I could find any dell disk internal hard elsewhere? I looked on ebay, and that was no help. If I migrated all the windows (requird) folders to an external hard drive, that nothing would be corrupt since the main unit is C? A lot of updates are taking space on my hard drive and usually have about 18-19.2g of free space. I I am willing to about 16,0-16,5 free space and my computer is slowing down. I use disk cleaning and disk defragmenter. The only reason i have not fully used my external is because I did not want to move important files that may damage Programes.
