Dell Desktop Vostro 220s
I need a 64-bit OS (Windows 7)?
I have a Dell Vostro 220s desktop that runs on Windows Vista Home Basic. The configuration is Intel E7400 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo and 3 GB of RAM. I'm thinking of buying Windows 7 for my machine as many say it is much better than Vista. I'm not sure whether to purchase the version 32-bit version or 64-bit. Do I need a RAM upgrade to please use an operating system 64-bit? It also makes a 64-bit to make my machine more efficient? And and software compatibility? Are all software running on 64-bit OS? Thanks in advance.
You gave us no information about what you use your laptop to … It really depends on which more than anything else. But as others said, if you currently running Windows Vista 64-bit, then you definitely want to stay with her (im assuming you do not though). To put it simply, but, no, you do not "need" 64-bit OS. It's a good idea to start over, but if you do not have to do it now, you probably should not. And yes, there are compatibility issues software, although these must be addressed soon. One thing worth mentioning, just over the bad press about Vista 64-was because of problems of software compatibility. If you want a better answer than this would probably be a good idea for a post in the forum somewhere, as http://www.techspot.com/vb/.
