Software to build a profile of network hardware?
I'm looking for some software to scan the local network and an output profile as the hardware LAN setup (including manufacturer and model of each device). As a little background, I am employed by a company that hires a lot of home with the employees, we they run some software to give us a profile of hardware and software on your PC, but as yet we have only his word on how your network is configured. Some of these people have 2-3 routers between your PC and your ISP modem, it tends to cause problems, sometimes we use a lot of VPN and remote desktop software. I do not know if there is software or not. But you tried to look at the network hops. Use a tracert command. It is the trace route command If you want the network to be created the way you want, you should expect to see one-hop gateway nic. But if you have multiple switches / routers. your going to see many jumps gateway switch1-switch2-nic. I would try this first. Most people are not smart enough to realize that you only need a router (layer 3 switch).
