Help determine an external hard drive that I can use with a laptop and a desktop?
Well, I'm looking for an external hard drive. I want the least 400 GB, but I prefer to find what I need a hard drive of 500 GB. I have been looking for them and where my main problem lies in the RPMs. Some say than 5400 RPM, and some say 7200 RPM. I know my laptop is 5400 RPM, but my desktop is 7200 RPM. Now, I'll be able to use the 7200 for both laptop and desktop? I want get a TV tuner with video capture. I want the SPCE extra hard for this. I want to download and edit home videos, etc.. I need your guidance and advice! FYI: Laptop is Gateway in hard drive 320 GB and 4 GB of RAM. Vista Premium SP1. Desktop is an eMachines. 160 GB HDD and 2 GB of RAM. Vista Basic.
the speed of an external hard drive is greater with the higher speed. the speed of your internal hard drive, it makes no difference when connected to the external. speed is controlled my interface (USB, Firewire, SATA, etc..) Most external drives are USB, even the slowest HD's are faster than USB.
