Gateway Desktop Won’t Start

My desktop will not start!?

When I try to boot my computer, I get a black screen that says: "Windows could not start properly. I do not install any software that would have contained the virus, I just turn off my computer to restart it because it was getting slow. It is near capacity memory, so I do not think it could be. What's wrong with my computer? It is a MFATXPNT Gateway (at least that's what he said on the back) with Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated!

Try starting in Safe Mode. The operating system does not start correctly. This can happen for several reasons. Often, if you simply turn the machine off and then start it again, you can come up.
