Restore Dell Desktop Factory Settings
How do I completely "reboot" or "reformat" my computer with the default settings of the original plant?
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 Desktop that I have for 3 years. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2. I just want to start all over again throughout. Delete everything and start over again. How can I do this? I do not want to "restore" something. Just start from scratch. Thank you.
Yes – just boot from the CD and follow the instructions. You want to delete all existing partitions, then create and format NTFS partitions using the new (Quick Format). After that, follow the instructions to reinstall. My advice is to do the reinstall, then go immediately to windowsupdate.com and get all updates you need. So deal with additional drivers (if necessary or if it is picked up by windowsupdate). Then take your anti-virus software. If you have a disk that is pre-XP SP2, then plan on about 2-3 hours to get all the updates. Oh, and remember to back up: Music Figures Addrss book (if you're using Outlook Express or Thunderbird), etc. Favorite
