Appleâ € ™ s iPhone allows VoIP Internet calls with Fring and Icall
Although IPAD has dominated the debate on blogs and media this week, there was an announcement during the recent Apple event, which was apparently forgotten. On Wednesday, Apple changed its strict policies iPhone developer, and updated successful software development kit (SDK) to enable VoIP calls to be made through the cellular network â € "not just WiFi anymore. VoIP, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, refers to a technology that allows digital communication over the Internet rather than through a traditional telephone network.
For now, there are only a handful of applications supported by the change, although the most notable is the free application, Fring and iCall. Shortly after the announcement was done, the developers of iCall published an article detailing the requests for new features, and why this change is so monumental for VoIP: â € œVoIP on the iPhone has been the source of much debate, with companies like Google being denied access to the platform and the FCC asking for limitations on Apple App Store; iCall is one of the few VoIP applications that have been authorized by Apple to exploit the iPhone platform.â €
The change opened the door to recognizable applications like Skype, Vonage, Voice and Google (which, although not a VoIP application-dependent, was not allowed on the iPhone since its inception). Vonage € ™ s debut of its new application â € "to customers who make frequent international calls â €" has a look similar to Google and voice function, leading to the thought that the latter will be available to iPhone users in the near future. Apple has faced examination because of his rejection of Google Voice, including an investigation by the FCC in the summer of 2009.
Previously, Apple and AT & T have allowed VoIP calls to be made through a cellular network, citing that the use of such technology was very draining. Although AT & T dropped its ban VoIP in October, itâ € ™ s Apple have a little more to follow suit. Clearly, Apple is now responding to customers, and is finally giving them the they want. This small and subtle change could also be a sign of more important changes to come â € "as an end to iPhoneâ € ™ s exclusive with AT & T, as well as improved technology and functionality for the iPhone 4G rumors. How Google Voice grows in popularity with the only Android-as-popular …
