memory card should I buy for my desktop

I get a card of 512mg or more of memory for my mother to a desktop I currently have is an acer DDR 400 MHZ pc32 00U-30330, which came with my Acer Aspire T120E desktop computer the thing is I do not know if I have to buy the same brand memory or I can buy any card I want and that has to be a DDR400

If your motherboard is rated to DDR400 then, do more than anthing will only run at 400 anyway. Anything less will correspond with what you currently have and will force your current RAM to run at slower speed (So and far-reaching for a new pair of DDR266 with its current DDR400 memory controller will only allow both hem work at DDR266 to effectively reduce the speed of RAM in the middle) you need to match the memory size as well as you need to pair with 512 MB or 512 MB of RAM will only run in single channel mode which will reduce the effective speed of the RAM in half.
